Preamble to the Indian Constitution

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:.

JUSTICE, social, economic and political;.

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;.

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity, and to promote among them all.

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;.

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY, this twenty-sixth day of November 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

Sovereign - An Independent state or country.

Socialist - India is a democratic socialist country with the concept of a welfare state.

Secular - India has a positive form of secularism in which the state recognizes the equality of all religions but does not have an official religion.

Democratic - In India, people rule through representatives elected by them; this is also known as representative democracy.

Republic - It refers to a state in which the people and their elected representatives have supreme power and the head of state is elected rather than a hereditary monarch or dictator.

Justice - All Indian citizens should be treated equally in terms of social, economic, and political justice.

Liberty - refers to Indian nationals’ freedom of thought, expression, belief, faith, and worship activities.

Equality - refers to equal opportunity and status equality.

Fraternity - refers to the spirit of brotherhood, the dignity of the individual, and the unity and integrity of the nation.
